Akinrotimi Akinyemi Omololu and Lawal Raheem Aramide
Abstract
The article explores the influence of medical interventions and
healthcare facilities on under-five mortality rates in Nigeria, using
data from 1991 to 2022 sourced from World Bank World
Development Indicators database. Data were analysed using the
Fully Modified Least Squares technique. The result shows that
health personnel exerts an insignificant negative effect on
under-five mortality rates while access to child healthcare shows
a significant negative effect on under-five mortality rates. Finally,
the result shows that public expenditure on health does not affect
under-five mortality rates while out of pocket health expenditure
shows a statistically significant negative effect on under-five
mortality rates. It was submitted that access to child healthcare
and out of pocket health expenditure reduce under-five mortality
rates while availability of health personnel and public expenditure
do not affect under-five mortality rates. Thus, there is the need to
expand access to affordable and quality child healthcare services
through UHC initiatives to reduce under-five mortality rates.
